The easiest way: the button in your email. Open it on the phone you're taking to Japan and tap “Install my eSIM” — everything starts on its own. The guide below is the QR code route, if you prefer it or if the button did nothing.
Install the eSIM on your iPhone

Start the eSIM installation
Go to Settings → Cellular (or “Mobile Data”), then tap “Add Cellular Plan” or “Add Mobile Data Plan”.
Choose “Use QR Code”
On the “Set Up eSIM” screen, tap Use QR Code.
Scan the QR code
Use your iPhone camera to scan your QR code. You download it from your installation page, button “Or install with a QR code” — save it to your photos to import it from the album.
Activate your eSIM
Tap Continue — your iPhone installs the eSIM in a few seconds.
Label your eSIM
After scanning, give your eSIM a label to find it easily (e.g. “Japan”). Pick a default label — your iPhone often suggests “Travel” or “Business” — or create your own: that's the name you'll look for in Settings afterwards.
Set the default line
On the “Default Line” page, select your eSIM for cellular data. Your usual SIM keeps calls and SMS — you keep your number and WhatsApp.
Finish the setup
Your new eSIM now appears in your cellular plan settings. It's installed!
Turn on data when you arrive in JapanEnable data roaming
Scroll to “Data Roaming” and turn it on. You'll be connected within seconds.
How to know your eSIM is active?
1Make sure you have at least one signal bar in the icon at the top of your iPhone.
2In Settings → Cellular, tap your eSIM and check that “Data Roaming” is on.

Open Settings → Connections
On your Samsung, open Settings and tap Connections.
Open SIM manager
At the bottom of the list, tap SIM manager.
Add a mobile plan
In the eSIMs section, tap Add eSIM.
Scan the QR code
Choose Scan carrier QR code and scan your QR code, downloaded from your installation page.
Turn on data when you arrive in JapanTurn on data roaming
In Mobile networks, enable Data roaming for your eSIM.

Open Network & internet
On your Pixel, open Settings then Network & internet.
Tap SIMs
Tap SIMs (Add a network).
Download your eSIM
Tap Download a new eSIM, then scan your QR code, downloaded from your installation page.
Turn on data when you arrive in JapanTurn on data & roaming
On your eSIM, enable Mobile data and Roaming.

On your Xiaomi or Redmi, open Settings then Mobile networks.
Manage your eSIM
Enable Turn on eSIM if needed, then tap Manage eSIM.
Add your eSIM
Tap Add eSIM and scan your QR code, downloaded from your installation page.

Set the eSIM as your Data SIM, then enable Data roaming.

Depending on your brand (OnePlus, Oppo, Motorola…), open Settings → Connections or Network & internet.
Open the SIM manager
Tap SIM card manager (or “SIM cards & mobile networks”).
Add an eSIM plan
Tap Add mobile plan or “Add eSIM”.

Choose Scan QR code and scan your QR code, downloaded from your installation page.

Best practice: install before you leave, on Wi-Fi
Your plan only starts when you arrive in Japan. Also keep your QR code handy, printed or on another device.
⚠️Install now, activate only when you arriveInstalling the eSIM does not put it into service — turning the line on does. Install it before you leave, on Wi-Fi, but leave the line switched off until you land in Japan. Switched on from home, it spends days looking for a Japanese network it cannot find, and on arrival it does not always restart the search by itself.
